Rory was born in Ballyshannon, County Donegal in 1948. He started playing guitar at the age of 9. Rory's first major band Taste was formed in 1968. They recorded "Taste" and "On The Boards", and released several live albums. Taste split in late 1970 due to musical differences.
Rory had quickly developed into a talented singer / guitarist. His first solo album "Rory Gallagher" was released in 1971 and was to be the start of a long and successful career. He would be best known for his live performances and guitar playing. U2`s Bono would later site him as one of the top ten guitarists of all time. Rory released a further 10 studio albums and several live. His last studio album to be released in 1990 was the superb "Fresh Evidence". Rory had sold 30 million albums by the time of his premature death in 1995. He was 47. Sadly missed, he will not be forgotten.
