Music Journalists have always had trouble catagorising King`s X as they have never been involved in the poodle rock or thrash scene of the time. It's fair to say that they have always done their own thing and have been pioneers rather than followers. The band has consisted of the same three members throughout their long history. Frontman and bass player Doug Pinnick put the band together in 1980 at the age of 30. Doug was brought up in a gospel family and this influence is evident in his distinct vocal style. He was joined by 22 year old drummer Jerry Gaskill, and 18 year old hot shot guitarist Ty Tabor. Essentially a rock band with Christian values, the bands spirituality would gradually fade from their music as King`s X became heavier and darker as years progressed. The band have sold more than 300 million albums worldwide and six of their studio albums reached the U.S. Billboard number 1 spot. Led Zeppelin disbanded in 1980 after the death of drummer John Bonham.
